Crater Lake Game Sanctuary Naivasha is a 10,000 acre private game sanctuary tucked on the shoreline of lake Naivasha centred around the green algae covered volcanic
crater lake. The Crater Lake is a green soda lake at the bottom of an
extinct volcano on the western side of Lake
Naivasha and north of the village of Kongoni,
with many trails including one for hikers along the steep but diminutive crater
rim. The Lake attract more than 170 birds species in the sanctuary like
Flamingos, Little Grebes, Cape Teal and Ruff’s, Great White Pelican,
Whiskered Tern, Maribou, Grey and Black-headed Heron, African Fish Eagle,
Yellow-billed Storks, Pied Avocets, Egyptian Geese. There is plenty to see in
the Sanctuary including Cape Buffalos, Common Zebra, Wildebeest, Dik Dik,
Impala, Thomson's and Grant Gazelles, Warthog, black and
white colobus monkeys very common around the tents, serval cats, caracals,
aardvarks, Giraffes and on a lucky game drive Elusive Leopard.
On the Lake rim is Crater Lake Camp with its tents
overlooking the lake - a hidden Gem. For honeymooners, this is a perfect place
very quiet and romantic. Not forgetting they have a floating restaurant on the
lake - Why miss the chance?
